Closing arguments set for Tuesday in intimate images lawsuit

  WINNIPEG Lawyers will make their closing arguments Tuesday in a trial happening in Brandon, stemming from a lawsuit filed by a former police officer over the non-consensual distribution of her intimate images. Brittany Roque, who was removed from a competition for a constable job with the Brandon Police Service (BPS) when the BPS received the photos, is suing Terri-Lyn Peters under Manitoba’s Intimate Image Protection Act for giving the images to Roque’s potential employer. The City of Brandon is named as a third party in the lawsuit. The act allows a person whose intimate image was distributed without consent to sue the person who distributed the photo.

New daytime warming spaces coming to Winnipeg

  WINNIPEG The City of Winnipeg is setting up two buildings to be used as temporary warming spaces to help support Winnipeggers experiencing homelessness during the extreme cold. On Thursday, Jay Shaw, the manager of the city’s emergency operations centre, said spaces will be opening up in both the Millennium Library and the St. Boniface Library starting Friday. “These two spaces will be available for our residents who need a temporary spot to seek a reprieve from the cold,” he said. The Millennium Library will open as a temporary warming space daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the next couple of weeks “as is required by the weather,” Shaw said.
